Greetings from Victoria, This 1882 halfpenny of Antigua has a detached triangle. Gibbons calls it SG 21a and gives a cat price of £550. I thought that meant I would need a certificate to get a fair price, but then found a certificate would cost USD50. I would have thought the scan was so clear a buyer would not doubt authenticity. What do the cognoscenti think? I would be most grateful for your opinions. Oh dear! File was over 200kb. I used optimizer and that brought it down to 121kb. The problem was then getting it on to the forum. I right click to the left bell to save and had trouble finding it. Eventually I found it not in Pictures but in C: and the form said it had an unacceptable file ending. What am I doing wrong Michael367

Hi Michael, it is a simple process, once you have some things sorted.
Always know, or engineer where your "saved files" go on your computer. Mine go to C: \ "Rods Stamps" no matter what, Bills *.pdf's, anything at all that is saved. Then I send files in that folder to their final destination.
Lets say your files is in C:\ "Michaels stuff" named "Antigua query"
Open SCF "Post a new topic" click on free image optimiser select your image (hopefully in *.jpg format" )
when the new image appears (on the left hand side) go to the bottom of the image "download this file"
The file will automatically sit alongside your original file (but with an "opt" extension)
Use that file in your post.

I'll leave the technical stuff to others (though you can look in where downloads lurk, and you'll probably find it there). It's not an easy stamp to forge, and there isn't a very significant premium between mint (£350) and used (£550). A certificate may give you peace of mind when selling (the buyer as well, maybe) and depending on your location will determine how much it costs, usually between 5% and 10% of CV. |

Good suggestions Geoff, but maybe not too practical since Michael is in Canada. The Greene Foundation in Canada appears to certify only British North America stamps. But Michael could try the American Philatelic Society in Pennsylvania or the Philatelic Foundation in New York City. |

Thanks Don. There's a bit of staining and the odd short perf., so it all looks genuine to me. In this case most buyers wouldn't want a certificate. It wouldn't do any harm to get one, though if it gives peace of mind. I've got this variety from Zululand which I bought without a certificate and am happy enough with it. |
