Hi guys...I have found what looks like a plate scratch on a NFLD scott 58 stamp...It is not recognized in Unitrade or N.S.S.C .(Newfoundland Specialized Stamp Catalogue)...

Below are two Scott 58's...The one on the LEFT has a plate sctch as shown by the pictures below..The right one is normal.

The reason I think it is a variety is that I have found it on a Scott 56 in the exact location as the Scott 58...Look at picture below.

Let me know what you think before I send it off to BNAPS and N.S.S.C. for verification.

Robert

Hey fellow collectors, I have been follow the forum for about a year now and now I make my first post and it will not be my last.
But WERT, I definitely believe you might a new variety.
I have a Scott 58 with the same scratch

I specialize in basically Newfoundland mint and their varieties. Check out the new constant flaw on Queen Victoria in a later post.

Trodent..Good stuff and welcome to the forum.

I am emailing Norris from BNAPS right now..He replied that there was only one plate of the 1/2 dog stamp..He said ALL colours were used with the same plate...The black dog pairs showed has one with and one without...The other orange/red dog stamp I showed with the scratch was a special printing of only 20,000..

I think the orange was printed first, followed by the black and finally by the orange/red...Non of my oranges have the plate flaw..Just the black and orange/red.

Still emailing back and forth..Will update this possible variety as time goes on..Still waiting a response from.N.S.S.C. catalogue.

wert: Very good find and never get discouraged when it's not such a find because continuous trying and not giving up can lead to a very good find.

There is a saying that says never treat anyone badly because no one knows what the future holds for anyone. Today one may be the boss and tomorrow one may lose it all.

BNAPS does not seem overly excited about a possible new variety..Still waiting to here from N.S.S.C. (Newfoundland Specialized Stamp Catalogue)

Do you sometimes get the feeling that it is not about what one finds but more about who finds it and gets/has the publicity? Some varieties are listed because some advertising dealers have them and are selling them while others are not listed because the same advertising dealers do not have them and are not selling them.
