Maybe we lack patience since they may be very backlogged, but with any new first discovery timing is important. |

Don't give up and split. Instead unite with those in a similar boat. You should be getting a response soon about it. |

Robert, Jogil. I am a member of a club called PNC3. We collect Plate Number Coils. Personally I collect only the Transportation Coils, a series of about 80 stamps issued between 1981 and 1995. Some were printed on the Cottrell press, and these stamps are a flyspeckers delight. I am like you guys - I try to get these listed but in my case our club issues its own journal and catalog. When we do find a new plate crack we usually report it in the club journal. Only very obvious and popular cracks or other varieties find their way into a regular catalog. The word "special" in the title of the Scott special catalog of US stamps needs to be taken with lots of salt!

Peter, very true..I am using the N.S.S.C. catalogue for Newfoundland stamps...It is 300 pages alone just for NFLD. But Unitrade is a great specialized Canada catalogue..But use N.S.S.C. just for NFLD. Robert |

This is a perfect example of a constant variety that should be included in the Unitrade Specialized Catalogue of Canadian Stamps ... and a perfect reason why I have noted previously on this forum to contact me directly about just these kinds of varieties.
Wert or Trodent: please send me a 600dpi JPG scan of the entire stamp(s) showing this variety so that a suitable image can be included along with the new listing in the next Unitrade catalogue.
It is great that the internet has given stamp collectors resources such as this site to post new finds.

Robson Lowe says these were printed in sheets of 10x10, so once the flaw appeared, it should be found on 1% of the stamps printed thereafter, including all of the 1896 reissues and who knows how many of the 1894 Montreal printings...maybe all of them, too?
Someone would have to be really familiar with the last hundred-plus years of Canadian philatelic literature to say with some certainly that this is a new discovery, but it certainly appears to be a rediscovery, at least, and maybe a new one.
Keep it up. At some point your finds may reach a critical mass and have to be discussed. Or maybe you can self publish an addendum for flyspeckers. |

Im sure John at NSSC will get back to you, Knowing John, he might be looking at getting some plate proofs, to see exactly what position that stamp is from.
He will respond.
