Online auction sites 99 percent +. One thing to consider: ebay straddles the line between an auction site in the literal sense and an online sales website for multiple dealers (Buy It Now).

I didn't vote because my answer wasn't there either but similar to another. I bought the majority of my stamps from the not-so-local post office in Israel

I picked ebay because that's what I use most frequently. If I went with the largest number of stamps, it would be a mail order dealer who I buy kiloware and bulk lots from (i.e. thousands at a time). My ebay purchases are usually of individual stamps and sets and is where I buy almost all of the "better" stamps in my collection.

I use stamp auction network (SAN) online to buy from major auction houses, but also use ebay occasionally. Generally, expensive stuff I bid on thru SAN, for less expensive I go to ebay.

As my main focus has been on French colonials, delcampe has been the perfect source for me all year, especially with the Euro so weak vs the US$.

My main source is ebay. There are a lot of good deals there if you look hard. But look hard. Look for defects not mentioned. I prefer to only shop the sellers that post picture of the back of the stamps as well. I enjoy shopping ebay.

Except from one order from the USPS, All my stamps this year were from major auction houses: Kelleher, Vance, Regency-Superior etc.

Almost exclusively ebay.com and Stamp2go. Of course for stamps of high value and top grade you check other auction house and dealer website but I cannot afford. Daniel

ebay...nothing else is even close.

I would add that ebay is not the place to get inexpensive stamps. With ebay fees and paypal minimum charges, sellers cannot make much money and why minimum value stuff is often expensive.

DON ---Surprised by the large percentage of ebay purchases. That really tells where the stamp market place is .

Depends. The poll asks for number of stamps, not value or price purchased. There is a strong, active and voluminous market segment buying at live auction, in person or via Stamp Auction Network, for stamps priced and sold at >$500.

If I buy 50 stamps on ebay priced at $5 to $50 after spending 20 minutes searching for each, and one stamp at Kelleher in person after inspection and priced at $2500 after a year of searching, does that mean ebay is the more important market? Be careful how you interpret the data.

Chris

Agreed,
I answered online auctions ( ebay etc) yet I only bought perhaps 5 stamp lots over the year. There was no discrimination between auction houses, so things will skew in ebay's direction.
