Can someone tell me if this is this Canada #38 or #42?
The color looks somewhere between. Is there another way besides color to tell the difference?
I am having problems with these two series.
Would you grade this a VF?

Well...The colour differences in monitors hinder colour interpolation

A Scott 42 has no guide dot and is 12 X 12 perforation. (pearl/gray)

A Scott 38 has guide dots at 3 or 9 oclock on the rim. (slate//green)

A Scott 38a has guide dot lower left..Perfs 11.5 X 12.0 (olive/green)

Is there a website that shows me those guide dots?
The color I see on my monitor is the same as the stamp.
I think it may be a #38. It is not really all gray.
Are the dots the same on the 3c, 6c and 10c?

It was advertised as a #34. I safely eliminated that possibility. lol

There was an extensive discussion of guide dots in the past including pictures.

Probably a #38 mid 80s printing, olive grey shade. But I hesitate to say 100 per cent as scanners vary so much in tint and tone

Upon close examination I do believe I see a guide dot. The dot is faint and right up against the vignette. It is right next to the vignette on the right hand side. This would make it a 38 as archerg said.

Jaxom100, check the perforations. If it is 12 x 12.25, it could be the 1988-89 Montreal Gazette printing, which is listed on the small queen chart in Unitrade, but oddly not numbered. The colour is slate green, like #38.

I appreciate everyone's help.
I was unable to get online last night (and survived it).
Here is a higher resolution on the left and the right sides.
I don't have EZperf yet. I had the trial and liked it.
These two series are very confusing. The Scott catalog does not list many of the color variations.

I say it's #42. Though you haven't given us the perf count, the perforations on the top/bottom match those on the sides, so I'd guess it's a 12x12. There are no position dots, soooooo, it's 42.
And Wert is right, we can't tell the colour, all our screens are going to be different, and I doubt your scanner is really accurate (many aren't).

If anything, I would say this is a 3 o'clock dot. They are *usually* bigger than the ones you show, and often embedded in the design.
