I have seen this exact green background colour some time ago, (kept a scan of it) and it was listed as a possible forgery. |

I've compared the backgrounds of the two stamps and the height of both is the same, but the width of the green one is slightly greater than the normal one. This may support the contention that the green one is a forgery. |

I have posted a topic on this stamp on 12/16/2012, entitled "Missing color on 929". Some answers from SCF members may be of interest to you. |

Well guys... Finally got the answer to my question is this green stamp was part of a trial stamp..I have been in contact for a couple of months with Archives Canada and below is their answer. Quote: Thank you for contacting Library and Archives Canada.
We have reviewed the proof sheets for the 48 cent Cradle stamp in the Library and Archives Canada collection and did not come across any proofs showing a green background.
It does seem as though there were some variations in the colour background as indicated in the 2017 Unitrade Specialized Catalogue of Canadian Stamps, although green wasn't one of the variations: "The 48c Cradle stamp exists with variations in the background colour (described as "pink" by the printers) that were previously thought to be "magenta" missing colour errors. Examination of the proof sheets in the Library and Archives Canada have conclusively determined that these are not missing colour errors but are some anomaly in the ink resulting in variations in the intensity of the inks used by the printer. These are shade varieties and are not a missing colour error" (pg 229). |

So it is not a trial, and it is not a missing color...so what is it? Don |

That Don is the million dollar question..I WILL continue to investigate further.
Beliski apparently had a full sheet and broke them up..I have one mint one...Strange.

Nice covers hornet785... We are all aware of these so called varieties shown in Unitrade catalouge...It is the GREEN version that has me and others stumped.
