Hello everyone, I have this, what I call Japanese Savingsbook. At least I think it is a savings book from a bank. On the outside we see a picture of Mount Fuji together with a Safe on the floor something that looks like a savingsbook(not very smart advertising, this bank leaves stuff lying on the floor?) The rest is a mystery to me, I have no understanding of the Japanese language. On the inside some more Japanese, I presume rules and regulations and a page with 0,5 sen postage stamps I believe issued in 1901 part of a larger series. I would really like to learn more about the actual date of issue of theis boooklet etc. As always not interested in value. Can anyone confirm my thoughts or more likely prove me wrong. If more pictures are needed, just ask. Thanks for youre thoughts. Johan..
I have a few of these. My (unsophisticated) understanding is that they are connected with Japan's very active and very large postal savings bank, and that the cards were a small-value savings mechanism that could be redeemed for a deposit in a postal savings bank account. (similar to the system that was implemented in the US starting in 1911, though the US used dedicated savings stamps rather than regular postage stamps for the purpose).
Thanks IkeyPikey and paperhistory. Japanese savings book was of course the only combination of words that I did not use on google. Already read some good information in the article attached to the images found. As it is only 10 sen in total it will probably be no later than 1923. Again thanks for your help. kind regards, Johan.
