I would like to know more about these stamps. Based on the little I've found online, the first two stamps are fiscal or revenue stamps. The first one has what looks like a postage cancel, but I don't think they're postage stamps. The last stamp appears to be a receipt for 25 centimes, but I can't figure out why it's attached to a receipt for payment of 30 francs for university registration and library fees. Could anyone tell me anything more about these stamps?

I think those must pre-date 1871 and the fall of Napoleon III and his "Empire". Remind me of old milk-bottle tops!

Really? That old? Yes, the old foil milk bottle tops, the Robins would peck a hole in them, mid winter, to get to the cream. Loved that as a kid.
Timbre de Dimension =?
Would that be weights and measures?

Monnaie, that 25 centimes stamp on the receipt is a (sales)tax on the transaction.

Thanks for the identification, Rod, and no, I don't mind sharing the thread with you! In fact, I'll sneak in a few more photos myself.... I have 8 of these stamps, which say "quittances, recus et decharges". A literal translation would be receipts (or bills), received and discharged, so I interpret it to mean these are revenue stamps issued to show payment of a bill or expense. Each piece of paper has an identical stamp glued to its reverse, but I didn't scan the reverses. |

1871 Detail from Forbin Catalogue. Quittances, Recus et Decharges They were designed by Eugene Andre Oudine (1810-1887) Here you can spot the engravers name, the Blue Burelage forgery protection, Perforate and imperforate |

hi all! I'm pretty sure that the first two 3F60 stamps are post A Forbin ... so issued after 1915. I can't make out the image but I believe these were based on the Marianne vignette designed and engraved by Georges Daussy. Here's a similar stamp where you can see (barely) the Daussy along the right hand side. I've found (so far) four different engravers/designers for these Marianne stamps starting in 1892 and running through the Daussy version in the 1920's |

here's an image of an earlier (1892) stamp using the same vignette but engraved/designed by M. Tasset (who also, unsurprisingly looking at these images, designed and engraved coins). You can see the differences in the engraved designs in the second image |

I would love a closeup of that third stamp on document as it appears to also be in the same 1892 series of Quittances stamps. |

here's a pair of Imperial Weights and Measures 1864 with overprints? Not real sure whats going on with these stamps ... I don't see any overprints mentioned in Forbin (unless that's the a, b, c, etc types) ... edited to add: doh just need to keep reading in Forbin ... the next section down discusses the overprints ... |
