I discovered this week I was blocked from bidding by a seller because I asked him about a lost shipment. When I originally contacted him I asked to see if you could trace the order since I had not received it. The response was USPS does not lose orders and if I asked for refund he would do it then block me since he did not want to sell any more. I actually did get the order and never did not ask for a refund but I guess he did not want to hear any more. These were low dollar BIN lots ($3 to $20).

Well, he will now lose out on your business.

Same here, or almost. I bid on an item and won it for a ridiculous amount. It never came. I asked if it was shipped since I did not receive it ( after two weeks ) and was immediately given a refund without explanation. I never received my mdse, but I tried bidding on some other lot and was blocked from bidding. Too bad for the seller - he has lost more than just one customer.

According to the ebay discussion boards, you can now open a new account to bid from a seller that blocked you as long as you have no malicious intent. The seller is expected to ship and if any problems, has to take it up with Customer Service.

There are many many sellers today that if there is any inkling of a problem before or after the sale, you are blocked ASAP.

Many of the large sellers do it and do not care.

Care to share the user ID's of the ones that blocked you?

Hi dutchman, and from one dutchman to another I would let you know their ID in a heartbeat. But I put it out of my mind and do not really remember. And to tell you honestly, I do not care either. I really do not care to buy any more from sellers that are dishonest either. But I do try and report them among others to Stampsmarter.

If I call ebay with a problem they usually advise me to Block the bidder. They seem to think better safe than sorry.

Anyone else encountered the seller 'georgetownlaw'? I think he is in Texas, has a lot of good US material and good feedback. He will however block you for anything at all. I never had any dealings with him until trying to bid on a cover last year and finding I was blocked. He refused to reply as to why. I posted a query on anther board and was told he had an apparent practice of trolling discussion boards, identifying possible ebay IDs and blocking them from bidding if they said anything critical about a transaction. Nothing like being proactive, I guess. He must have a ton of time on his hands to be able to do that.

I have blocked perhaps 5-6 people in my years as an ebay seller. IMO all of them richly deserved it.

The seller had blocked a fairly large number of posters on the old ebay stamp chat who mentioned his altered, misidentified or misdescribed stamps and some who didn't.

I also do not think this seller 'has a lot of good US material' but rather has a number of mis-described and/or mis-identified listings. If this person blocks you, they are doing you a favor.

Years ago I described problems I was having with a Bidstart seller on this forum and later found out that I had been blocked by the seller mentioned by Stamps1962, even though I had never purchased anything from him. I couldn't even contact him through ebay to find out why I'd been blocked.

tomiseksj-

Really makes you wonder how he finds time to do this. It may be one thing to block someone who disparages you on a discussion forum. It seems damn anal to go looking for anyone saying anything at all negative about any seller and block them. That suggests some sort of issue that would place him off limits.

Wonder if he is an attorney. He has been discussed not only on here but on the forum in Australia. Seems he has quite the reputation.

There are many dealers, gtl included, who occasionally sell faulty material not described as such to collectors who aren't savvy enough to detect the problems and tend to overbid as a result. It is a business model that relies on blocking knowledgeable collectors who pose a "problem." Only those buyers who are willing to be taken for a ride get to bid.

I have been blocked twice in decades of collecting. One was Apelbaum for returning China forgeries checked by the China Society. That bothered me so much that after about a year I asked for forgiveness and was reinstated. I felt better and now several years later never bid again and will not bid again.

Second time was an ebay dealer dmstampinc of Chula Vista,CA for asking an intelligent question. Actually just for asking a question! He has never responded so it could be other reasons unknown to me. I am still blocked and still hurt. Get over it Randy and move on. OK.

But if anyone knows why.....?

I appreciate the service he has provided those whom he has blocked and I have excluded him from my ebay search results so that I don't have to waste my time looking over his offerings.

He doesn't appear to have a store yet on HipStamp and that is a good thing as there is currently no ability to block sellers during searches on that venue.

Sometimes major dealers with a lot of customers make mistakes. I recently discovered that I was banned by a big-time dealer from whom I frequently bought many lots over the years, and always paid almost immediately.

I asked them, why they banned me from bidding. They didn't explain why but answered "try now." The ban was removed. I can only guess that they made a mistake.
