The overprint reads "Greek Administration". While these 2 words do appear on overprints of Icaria, the font is different and they were not made on the 20 lepta stamp for Icaria. So it is not for Icaria.

Your overprinted stamp was actually issued for use in areas of Turkey occupied by Greece (New Greece) in 1912. In the Scott catalog, it is Greece #N115.

Nope, that is Scott No. N115, Greek occupation of Turkey in 1912.

Was it designated to any particular area in Turkey? I think Greek occupation in Thrace and Argyrokastron/Gjinokaster, used Turkish stamps overprinted.
Interesting, though, this series of stamps was popular for overprinting: The Turks used it at Thrace, and the Greek overprinted it also at Northern Epirus and West Thrace.

As long as you've got that stamp in-hand:

Not on the overprint. But it was issued for "New Greece". By process of elimination of other regional occupation issues, I believe the stamp was probably issued for the areas of what was then Western Turkey, such as Cavalla and Dedeagatch (now Kavala and Alexandroupoli)?

Where's Nigelpedia???

Hi Kim

The following wikipedia link shows a nice clear map of the national boundaries in the Balkans just before the First Balkan War in 1912:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipe...kan_1912.svg

Greece then held very less territory than today with much of northern Greece (with major towns such as Edessa, Salonica, Drama etc.) and the Aegean Islands all under Ottoman control.

These overprinted stamps were intended for use in newly acquired areas but after a time I believe they were used throughout Greece.

They were replaced in the newly Greek areas by the new Cross of Constantine and Eagle of Victory stamps.

Most of the other Greek overprints were intended for use in relatively limited areas.
