Quote: wouldn't have the slightest idea of where to look for more information. Beyond our reach...... The accepted source is the Revenue Stamps of Argentina, (6 Volumes) by Clive Ackerman. Sometimes held in stock by John Barefoot Current price if you can get it, around $300 Argentine revenues, is one of the world's most difficult collecting disciplines. I collect whatever passes my desk, but shudder to go any further. Note : 40 or so pages of Argentine revenues appear in Forbin (Up to 1915) free download somewhere on the Internet. |

I'm the same way. I love coming across this stuff in misc lots, but do not target it. I will have to see if the APS has it for loan in their library. |

Hi Rod, Are you aware that the three Santa Fe revenues here probably come from the same set? I don't know how they were used but I guess it may have been a bit like some telegraph stamps with one part applied to a document and the other (the talon) kept on a receipt. Here are a couple of pairs with similar designs from the 1916 set: Here is the same kind of thing from an earlier 1898 set of Santa Fe "Guia" revenues, Forbin #101, #102 & #104: In these pairs one stamp is labelled "CONTROL" rather than "TALON" but it seems to have a similar purpose as the 1896 Guia set used the word "TALON" in place of "CONTROL". I've no idea what "Guia" or "Guias" refers to here. Forbin just has a heading "GUIA" without any explication. I can't help with the Santiago del Estero stamp. It's just a little too late for the 1915 Forbin catalogue which is my only reference for these. |

Hi Nigel, I have a very blurry overview of Argentine revenues, You are correct with the two part stamps.
Guias = Guide, from what I can see.
See this for a curly description of "Comision de Fomento"
Commission for the Promotion of the Activities of Civil Society Organizations
Its purpose is to facilitate coordination in the design, execution, monitoring and evaluation of actions and measures for the promotion of the activities established in article 5 of the Federal Law of Promotion of Activities Carried Out by Civil Society Organizations; as well as the definition of mechanisms for the participation of Civil Society Organizations in public policies.
Thank you for your time and efforts, I have Forbin as well, but I don't think we can really get our teeth into Argentine revenues , without a specialist member, or.... Ackerman's catalogue (8 volumes $300 )
I post on the off chance a specialist will one day respond.....(fishing)

Hi Rod,
I see that Clive Akerman's Argentina books are listed in our society library.
I'll try and have a look at them next time I'm there if they're not out on loan.

Thread Bumped 1 year since last Post. Vignette: Rivadavia 3c Orange P12 No Watermark VisibleEither Sc#95, or 109 or REPRINT
Any way of identification? (No gum) or left to just a guess Is lack of Watermark ID common with these issues? Stamp image is seen through the back, under Wmk Fluid |

The watermark shouldn't be that tough to see. It's a pretty common stamp except in some of the perforation variations. The issue with using watermark fluid is the same with pretty much all yellow/orange issues. It's actually easier to see without the fluid. |

Thank you. Quote: The issue with using watermark fluid is the same with pretty much all yellow/orange issues. It's actually easier to see without the fluid. Yes, I came to that conclusion also, however I could not see any "rays" at all, which had me post this query. I'd like a "Signoscope" but the prices are skyward. Cuba and Argentina are tough for me watermark wise. |

Argentina can be tough because so many of the watermarks looks so close to the same. I haven't found it too difficult on these because the small sun and large sun are distinct enough. |
