Quote: Hi rod222: Modern postal forgeries ArgentinaScott: no. 704 1961 Hi Perf12, surely not ? that must be a normal stamp, just abused. If not, we need to let this forger go, and I'll do better on my photocopier. |

I have really got to redo my Argentina, I started to redo my Steiner pages to match the newer page design I've got on other countries, but just haven't gotten the gumption up to finish and remount everything. |

Been there, felt that. I transferred from Stanley Gibbons to Scott, about 10 years ago, I could see no end to it. Now in a good place, Argentina is all mounted, gaps are easily seen and identifiable, I like it when you get to this stage, you can really get in and study the stuff one has accumulated. |

Argentina : Revenues Santa Fe. 1908 General Imports. (36 Pieces 2c to 1000 Pesos) Similar 1909 Forbin = "Meme genre" = Same Kind The 1909 issues are 1mm narrower than the 1908 revenues. (The screw heads in the forme plate, is a nice touch by the designer ) Error by Forbin? This 4 Peso "Blue" is either 1908 (cancelled 1908) and a mistake by Forbin, or a 1910 issue ? Forbin = "id" = Identical (to 1908 issues) Forbin "id" = idem = "The Same" |

Hi Rod,
My 1908 4 pesos stamp is very similar to yours. It may be slightly darker but I definitely wouldn't call it violet.
These were still relatively recent issues in Forbin's day so he probably had limited and/or unreliable information to work with for some of these stamps.
I'm sure the 1910 issue will say "1910" although I don't have any from that set to prove this.
I would read "id" very slightly differently: "Id" = idem = the same.
After all, he described the 1908 stamps as "Id." compared to the 1907 set with the illustrated design clearly showing "1907". I have 16 of the lower values and then the same range as you show here up to 80 pesos but that's my top value.
I think these long sets in different colours look well on the page.
I see Forbin notes that some of the high values had very low numbers issued, with a "tirage" of 500 for the 2,000 pesos stamp and only 50 for the 5,000 pesos stamp!

Hello Nigel, Quote: I would read "id" very slightly differently: "Id" = idem = the same. Thank you very much. Very helpful information (as usual, from your good self) I have odd revenue pieces from Santa Fe, 1896, 1900, 1902, 1906,1907 but, as you, none from 1910. I'll mount the 4 peso under 1908 with a "flag" Quote: wouldn't call it violet. Even more so, "Google translate" has "Viol. terne" as Dull Purple. I shouldn't think these are "colour changelings" |

BTW, the "Unknown. 12c blue envelope." stamp from computer second message in this thread is the Jacobsen essay of 1882. They printed lots of both perforated and imperforate examples and it looks like they even touched up the design a bit before they got done. I have no supporting evidence, but I believe that after they did not win the contract they printed and sold them either as curiosities or into the collector market. It's hard to imagine any way as many would still survive otherwise. My page on them shows a few that I have picked up. |

Yeah, I bought an auction lots several years ago that was supposed to have a genuine 10c and a full set of these forgery/fantasies. Turned out the 10 was also a forgery so I sent it back for a refund. I've got a genuine 5c (from Jalil) but I expect the 10c space will stay forever empty... |

...which indicates the extraordinary price, for these fantasies. I thought my bid was over the top, (my wallet ran into a dark corner) but the final price was waaay beyond my expectation.
