Good Day.
First time poster here (I did browse the ToS page so hopefully I didn't miss anything).

I have a #1032 Mount Vernon FDC which I have a couple of newbie questions about.

The most recent Scotts Catalog I have is 2013 Specialized.
Values the stamp at 25˘ with a P# block of 4 at $1.00
The Specialized says the FDC is worth $1.00

Q: It says that there are 270,109 known cancels (the number in parentheses). Is that a lot?

Q: Agree/Disagree: are FDC prior to 1960 generally more valuable?

Q: There are two 1032 stamps afixed. What does that do to the Scotts listed value? Notice in picture that there is a margin on one of the stamps, although no printers marks/numbers.

Q: on the backside it looks as if the stamp of the cache was imprinted thru to the backside, so you can see it in reverse (need to look real close).

Thanks for your time.
Dobb

FYI
Interesting piece on "Art craft" covers.

It seems to be following the route of my preference, which was always "Cachet Craft"
Covers.

Thanks for that link. Been reading a bit on the demise of collecting. Now that it's been a full year since Art Craft ceased creating, any glimmers into the value? Up or down for AC or cache makers in general?

I've started the laborious process of trying to group my FDCs by theme. Might appeal to one off theme collectors.

Thanks again for your reply.

None at all, sorry.
I collect Cachet Craft, purely and simply for the colour, (and the designs of K Boll)
I am just a passive collector of these, happy to pay $1 each.

For inside oil on the status quo, your best bet, would be a US dealer.
Someone who moves FDC's
There is a site called "A buck a cover", which may assist you to get a feel of the market.

Being an Aussie, the last price I heard for a complete Australian collection
was around 9 years ago, and that was circa $1,000

Wow, what a site
https://www.buckacover.com/

I'm still wrapping my head around the valuation of FDCs. There are so many more variables than stamps alone. The stamp, how many stamps, what cache (if any), addressed or not, condition of the back (glue staining), subject matter, how many were cancelled.

Obviously some of these parameters are subjective, like subject matter, and I'd guess to some degree, if it's addressed or not.

But I'd think that if the cancellation matches the official release city, that's good.
The number of stamps is good (even better if there are margins with plate marks).
The value of the stamp.
The quantity of cache produced
The quantity of cancellations on that day of first issue.

Now with FDCs, you want it to be cancelled, whereas an uncancelled stamp is worth more usually.

Time. I know. More time...

Thanks,
D2
