Please - does anyone know what kind of postmark this is?

A circle with a cross inside. I've been going through an accumulation of several 1000's of Luxembourg stamps, and this was the only stamp with this kind of postmark. So it seems to me the postmark is not that common and was maybe used for any special purpose. TPO?

Viewpoints appreciated
Jon

moderators - maybe it would be an idea to establish a dedicated category in this forum for 'WW Postmarks' ?

Jon, I tried looking it up on this forum - no luck. What is a TPO?

John,

I presume 'Train' was a typo - should be 'Travelling post Office', not restricted to only trains, but could also be other means of transport like ferries, Line-ships etc.
This is an excellent site for anyone curious about this part of Postal History:
http://www.tpo-seapost.org.uk/tpo2/home.html

Nothing on that site about my particular postmark though.
(When I suggested TPO for my postmark, it was nothing but a 'shot in the dark' as I have no clue whatsoever)

These are referred to as "Mute" Postmarks.
Nothing evident in the Luxembourg Pmk link

You may wish to email the Webmaster for his appraisal.

It is unusual to see a mute Pmk on such a late issue, in my opinion.

Please post your results, if any.

Thank you for the feedback Rod, perfect. Mute postmark it is, I take your opinion as good as any.

This canceler is often used to cancel stamps used to pay postage due.
