I was in the process of trying to list my Cuban stamps for sale on ebay but they will not allow you to sell them. I find it odd seeing we have formalized relationships with Cuba again. Heck Russia and China are far worse but you can sell those stamps.

As perf12 indicated, ebay simply uses an algorithm to filter on certain 'disallowed' words. So you can list Cuban stamps but you cannot use the word Cuba, Cuban, etc. Also note that if someone complains or otherwise draws attention to the listing they might pull it. Don |

There's also a problem with payments via Paypal because of the extra-territorial nature of the US embargo, which also affects foreign-based subsidiaries of US companies. And current events don't exactly suggest that fifty-five years of vindictiveness are going to end soon. |

I sell "Caribbean" collections all the time with no problems so far. I combine Dom Rep & Cuba instead of putting Cuba in a box. |

Very interesting indeed, guess I'll bundle them with other Caribbean/Latin American stamps. Not looking to get this into a political debate but seems silly to me especially when Russia, China & many Central American/South American countries have horrendous human rights violations but we still trade with them.
I guess the whole Bay of Pigs episode was embarrassing for the Kennedy's so we have to keep this embargo up. |

You can also use Cùba, Cubá, Çuba, Cußa or other like spellings as eBay/Paypal doesn't pick up on it automatically. Use at your own risk. |

From experience I know Cuba and Sudan are banned and French Soudan won't work either. I can sell Iran as long as I only list it for domestic shipping.
I like early Sudan stamps but usually just include them with another country and show pictures. I'm not sure if I get any value from them or not. |

French Sudan is particularly mad as it's a different country and has been called Mali for fifty-odd years! |

I've talked to ebay about Persia/Iran and they are OK with it as long as I don't ship Internationally. They have an "Iran" category under Middle East. |

I've run up against this on flea-bay before. Such a stupid rule. Doesn't effect Cuba or it's GNP at all, and only puts limitations on sellers. Grow up ebay! |

I use Spanish Antilles for Cuba, ClassicIran or ClassicPersia (one word) for Iran, and FrenchSudan (one word) or ClassicSudan (in case of Anglo-Egyptian Sudan). I tried to explain to ebay that current US embargoes do not apply, in any way or form, to these old colonies but they refuse to understand. |

The righthand doesn't know what the lefthand is doing. The US Post Office now permits shipments to Cuba WITHOUT customs forms! I sent a package of stamps to a friend in Havana in December and when I asked for the Customs Form, the Postal Clerk…without checking the DMMm told me without hesitation it was no longer needed! I asked him twice if he was sure. He guaranteed none was needed. He slapped the "registry label" on the envelope (I already had placed the postage on it) and it arrived in Havana 30 days later -- UNTOUCHED by US Customs or Cuban Customs! Personally, I don't think anybody understands what is happening … certainly the people at ebay. I'm sure their legal beagles are simply playing things safe making sure the New "Nut-so" in the WHite House doesn't overturn what the old "Wacko" signed as an Executive Order. The cost to re-program ebay's computer systems to accept Cuba must be pretty hefty MIS-labor cost. So, I don't blame them for not rushing into doing all the work which may have to be undone. The cost must be six-figurres in programming for EBAY…would you want that to come out of your pocket?? I think not. So give them a few months to get their Donald Ducks in order so they s=feel safe to expend The +/-$$$,$$$.00 to update their systems. If I were their lawyer, I'd advise to do nothing for at least six months until there are signals from the new Washington administration as to whether the signed Executive will stay in place. Best, Hal |
