Received this from a German bank. The letter was given the 0.70 euro inland costing instead of the 0.90 euro anywhere else costing. The German postal authorities rightly gave it the T 20/90 mark. GB authorities didn't follow up on this postage due and the postman was very perplexed and wondered what it meant. I told him it might be some sort of auditing mark but could not be sure ..../ and thus saved myself the £1.50 "fee to pay" charge.

And saved yourself a trip to the sorting office! I don't think postmen collect postage due, customs payments etc any more.

You did well scotzm!

Many years ago when I was working in Switzerland my bank back home in Scotland sent me a dull marketing leaflet at an inland rate.

The Swiss post office certainly collected the fees!

A card was put through the door where I was staying asking mt to go to the post office to pick up the letter.

Off I went, I paid the fees and I was presented with a nondescript envelope with a leaflet from "A friend for life" as the bank used to call itself.

Yes, I know. You normally get a card with details of how to pay put thru the letterbox and can either collect it at a local office or have it delivered after payment via stamps, internet etc.
My point was that nobody knew of the markings... I cannot remember seeing one of these for... well, not this century anyway.
