Hello I found this site for the Africa Federation of Free States and other "free states". Are these countries real, or are they like Sealand and Staffa? http://www.africastamps.org/index.html
During the great colonization period, European countries rushed to claim their piece of Africa. By 1914, there were only two countries that were not under foreign control (Liberia and Ethiopia).
According to the website the Federation of Free States of Africa is an Alliance of Sovereign African States, whose aims and purpose are to promote Democracy, Freedom and Peace in Africa. The federations is also known as the African League for Peace and Prosperity.
At first sight the Federation of Free States of Africa is about a group of unfederated non-free non-states not spanning Africa. This looks like an effort to replace the existing country borders with something that makes more sense. The idea would be to create sovereign areas along language and cultural lines. Given that it does seem to keep most of their outer borders, I don't know how effective that would be, but it might be a start.
However, almost all of these proposed "States" are not currently recognized by the Universal Postal Union. Therefore, the issued stamps are not postally valid.
Scroll down the page and you'll see new issues for the "new Sovereign and Independent Texas Free State, located in South Central North America." So I'd say the African issues are about as real as the Texas Second Republic.
