Hello everyone,
Looking through a lot post cards this was the only one that wasn't a one cent Washington or Franklin and it's sporting a neat looking style cancel that I've never seen until now. What style or design is this type of cancel? Thanks! Jon

Hi Jon
These are called 'squared circles'. Various designs were used from different countries, particularly within Commonwealth. Iconic and beautiful design, much sought after by dedicated collectors of these. Naturally the collectors are aiming to get them centered and upright on the stamp itself.

As a follow-up question, would someone tell me what the abbreviation V.D.O. in the bottom of the dial stands for?

Thanks.

Don

Hi Don,

I believe this is is "N.D.O.", in full, "Sheffield Northern District Office".
