This is another first in Philippine history as Manny Pacquiao is the first and only Filipino athlete to receive such an honor. In the US, the singular distinction belongs to former welterweight and middleweight champion Sugar Ray Robinson who is regarded by most boxing experts as the greatest boxer of all-time. But what sets Manny's feat apart is the fact that his stamps are being issued while he is still alive and active in the sport, a distinction that has been met with accolades as well as some controversy. In the US and other parts of the world, this honor is strictly reserved for the deceased and many (including this author) have always thought that we had the same policy in the the Philippines until this project was announced earlier this year.

What happen in Canada?

I'd rather have seen Neil Young, Gordan Lightfoot, Richard Thompson, Klaatu, the Kings, on stamps before these four.

Gordon Lightfoot was last year (with Joni Mitchell, Paul Anka, and Anne Murray).

But yes, there is the need for some groups -- I could see The Guess Who, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Chilliwack and Lighthouse coming first though. And if they wanted to go back a little further, The Crew Cuts, The Diamonds, and The Four Lads, not to mention Percy Faith and his orchestra.
