I am always interested in the depiction of fictional characters as stamp collectors.

I have been down streaming Netflix' collection of the Hercule Poirot ITV TV series. Last night I was watching an episode that started out showing Poirot seated in his office placing stamps in a stockbook and using a magnifying glass. His friend Hastings interrupts to remind him of an appointment which irritates him. He tells Hastings he is engaged in 'sorting out my stamps by size' (!) Obviously the script writer was not a philatelist.

I have seen several of these episodes and this is the only suggestion that Poirot is a collector. any other Christie fans out there who have noticed other references to this?

I would think the Poirot remark was a joke. One that would appeal to philatelists only.

I recall reading, about thirty years ago, a stamp-based detective story by WG Tapply entitled The Dutch Blue Error, but the detective wasn't himself a collector.

Of course there's the stamp collecting hitman Keller by Lawrence Block.

The disposability of crime fiction is astonishing. I must have read a couple of dozen books by Block, and I'd forgotten all about Keller!
