A long time ago, I bought multiple copies of France Scott 300 (S.S. Normandie) and France Scott 302 (St. Trophime at Arles). The paper on which the stamps were mounted carry information I have not been able to make sense of.

The Normandie stamps are described as "1935, Type 70" and the St. Trophime stamps are described as "1935, Type 71."

Can anyone explain these "type" references? Much obliged in advance.

Alex

They are the numbers of the illustrations of these stamps in the Stanley Gibbons catalogue. The SG number of the actual stamps are SG 526 for the Normandie, and SG 527 for the St. Trophime, Arles stamp.

I have no idea what is meant by Type 70 or 71 but the SS Normandie
stamp, Scott 302 was issued first in April 1935 for the launching and reissued in May 1936 after the ocean liner was awarded the Blue Ribbon.

As you can see from the 2017 Scott Catalogue snippet there are 4 colour types and if you have
Scott 300b blue green then you are a lucky guy.

Why don't you show us what you have either scanned or photo.

Well, since you asked...

I'm thinking the two light blue items might be Scott 300a. What do you think?

Yes I believe you have the dark blue and the light blue
varieties.
I can't see any green.

Same 2 types I have. They were part of a France collection I bought.
The auction catalogue actually claimed that the light blue was
Scott 300c but no matter how long I look at it I can't see any turquoise.

Hi Astrakov,
I am also curious about this rare shade. I have myself about the same shades as the 3 you have shown above, however I do not think the leftmost stamp has enough green in it. (Same for mine stamps as well )

Here are your stamp compared with two genuine ones above and below:

I doubt the stamp on the left is the rare blue-green shade, but any tips on how to distinguish between turquoise and light blue? (Regular 300 on the right for comparison.)

Turquoise with have a bit of green to the color, light blue does not. Both of Alexpgp's lighter colored stamps look like pale blue to me, the leftmost one Astrokov shows might be turquoise, but the scan itself looks washed out.
