Reprint or real? Looks to have traces of guidelines. Thanks for your help!

The horizontal line in the middle of the shield appears to be printed, which if I understand things correctly, means it is a forgery.

The originals do not have the horizontal line printed. Some remaindered stamps had the horizontal blue line drawn in. The length of the line varies, since it was drawn in, but on genuine remaindered stamps it is always drawn and not printed. I am open to correction, but that is my understanding.

Can't tell if Redwoodrandy's locals might be genuine, pic is too small. But it doesn't have the blue bar printed between the 1/2oz and the $1.00, so it has a good shot.

Maverickx, your stamp has the blue bar printed between the 1/2oz and the $1.00, so it cannot be an original. Yes, it does look similar but that's the intent of reprints and forgeries -- the devil is in the details.

The illustration in the original post matches "Forgery A" as detailed in Larry Lyons 3 volume set: "The Identifier for Carriers, Locals, Fakes, Forgeries and Bogus Posts of the United States", volume III, pages 1146-1147. The 2007 price guide attributes this forgery to Hussey and suggests a value of $5.

Thanks for the reference, John. I've noticed that the Hussey forgeries in multiples/blocks seem to command a premium compared to individual singles.
