I've been thinking about moving into the WW realm and want to personalize the scope a bit. I've always been intrigued with airmail stamps so my thought is to collect one example from each country issued in the year of my birth, 1949.

Has anyone else done something like this? Is it a reasonable undertaking? Any advice?

Thanks,
Terry

Hi: Sure; why not. Giulio Andreotti who was Prime Minister of Italy
collected covers from the Papel States from the 1st of january to
the 31st of december 1870. All with their respective date cancels.365 covers ,not bad.
If I were to do what you have in mind;I would collect the stamps on covers only.It would be much more interesting in terms of the search
and philatelic appeal.My thoughts..

Fair warning, it can be a slipper slope. I started my WW collecting with the idea that I would just collect stamps from my birth year. Two years later, I am collecting everything.

Slippery slope indeed.

Here is a blog about collecting WW airmail up to 1940 from Ed.
