My last big order came from http://stamp-mounts.com where mounts are about 50% off list. I had ordered from Matilda's in the past but they did not seem to have as much in stock.

The same mount from Subway at $5.19 is $4.69 at this place.

For orders under under $150 it is $14.95 but over $150 it is free.

I did a quick mock up of using 52mm mount (one Showgard, one Prinz) cut in half and added to a test page using 2 26mm high stamps. The stamps seemed to stay in when page folded or upside down. A lot has to probably due with how much you push it against the lower crease. The Showgard is more substantial but no obvious difference in retention yet. The mount should be a tad taller....the next size up is 55mm.

Hi Al,
I agree but keep in mind that the material may have different capabilities in terms of stretching or 'memory'. In other words, if you stress the mount material by pushing the stamp down into the crease further, it may or may not be able to retain it over time.

Doesn't that damage the perfs, i.e.; tending to make them a little flat?

Yes. That was implied that cramming them is an exposure but then you have a similar issue with split backs if the mount is not slightly over sized.

My test page....I like this better than hinges.

I have the PageMaker files and can get a copy of the software off ebay to add the catalog numbers and sort by Stanley Gibbons for early issues (mostly pre WWII)

I love the Hawid mounts. I get mine from Golden Valley Stamps for $8.05 per strip.
