Well, at risk of telling you what you probably already know, I think it is Scott #14, a portrait of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, , issued in 1864. Worth a lot more money if it had a district number on it. Condition is great.Possibly a remainder. Wish I had it. |

Wert - Yes. Stamps that went into service for use at a particular district were overprinted with that district number. |

I almost envy you Robert, focused as you are in just one single area, and therein highly specialized. I have to see what's out there, conquer unseen mountains of philatelic adventure. |

Sorry to dampen your enthusiasm, Guys. I am afraid these stamps are 75c 2009. MEJICO is the standard inscribe on stamps of this era. The expensive stamps are the issues with a district overprint (which is barely readable on the auction examples) Happy to stand corrected. |

Hey Wert, I'll gladly take any Mexico stamps off your hands since they don't fit your Canadian focus. Just go ahead and send them to me and save yourself the trouble with them cluttering up your workspace. Oldguy |

Hello friends! Yes, is Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, but the real name of these issues is know as "JUAREZ ISSUE". All issues is with "J". Already exist two issues (1 know as not issued): Some were used in July-August in Monterrey and Saltillo only (but, intended for general use when the printing was ordered) * First printing: Issued in 1864 with perforation 12, original printing on thick, slightly toned wove paper. With District Name Monterrey or Saltillo. * Second printing: on crisp white wove paper, delivered in 1868 and not Issued, perforation 12 without Name od District. Stamps with 1/2 Surcharge with additional Saltillo Name are bogus. Fairly good engraved counterfeits are perforated 11 1/2. Source: Nicholas Follansbee Catalogue. Regards! Rodolfo |
