I picked this up at an auction a few weeks ago.

This seems to be a British Forces Mail Formular Aerogramme form, used in H.M.S. Forces. South Atlantic, posted with a "Maritime Mail" handstamped cancel. a ship cancel on February 2, 1990 from H.M.S. Endurance, which was an ice control vessel that served until 1991.

Cachets on both center section and inside section of airletter front side, make for a busy cover.

Most interesting however....

Here is a photo of the ship (pulled from the internet)

All in all, I am pleased with this addition to my collection.

Any comments?

That is certainly a wild philatelic creation but I am a bit unclear as to why it was made in this way. The Falklands War, or Malvinas War, or War of the South Atlantic or whatever a person wishes to name it based on their political views happened in 1982, 8 years before this cover was mailed. That conflict was between the UK and Argentina. The other cachet relates to a 1939 off the coast of Uruguay in the River Plate or Rio de la Plata depending which side you were on. That was a battle involving two British and one New Zealand ships against one German ship (the Graf Spee) where the German ship was pretty much destroyed but not before badly damaging the British and New Zealand ships. There is no connection between the 1939 and 1982 battles and there were different countries involved against the UK. The cancellation on this aerogramme from 1990 seems relatively unrelated to these two conflicts, and it does not appear to have anything to do with Argentina, Uruguay or Germany.

I just post what I find, do not try to explain them.
