When you have those for $ 20, please contact me and I will pay you 20 times your asking price.
Read the descriptions,
They are both very rare items,

Duncan Ignoring his fairground barker stuff, the UM Exhibition air-mail stamp is catalogued at €5,500 in Maury. You'd normally expect to see these in a standard auction, rather than on ebay. Geoff |

€5,500 amazing cat. Hes obviously got a very good supply source on rare material hes always getting very high bids. I wish I knew where he got his supply from. My Ceres covers never do as well as his do. |

Well, they include lots of balloon covers from the siege of Paris, and that 1849 cover from the first days of French postage stamps is a lovely thing. Not my league, I'm afraid! |

Can't underestimate enough how having a strong following helps. Over time some sellers have built a large number of satisfied buyers that monitor their offerings. That alone means their items always outperform the same by a lesser known seller.
It can get very frustrating, but these guys have "paid their dues" and they are reaping the rewards. I see it all the time. |

Duncan, if you can't understand why these went for high bids, then I would suggest working on identifying French material. If you're assuming the two lots in question are everyday material, then you've misidentified them.
I've divested myself of most of my France collection and never was a true specialist, but were I still collecting, I would likely have gone after that C5a. It's lovely.
Definitely NOT rank-and-file common material. |
