Where $1 a Month Can Make A Difference!

The APS would like to introduce you to Mighty "Dollar" Bill. He represents the power of the dollar when hobby supporters join their contributions, strengthening the future of stamp collecting, one buck at a time.

The Mighty Buck Club provides an affordable opportunity to make a BIG difference. We wanted a campaign where we could show our members that donations even in small amounts pooled together can provide much needed funds to improve APS/APRL services and support the hobby.

I would suggest list what they want to purchase in someone is interesting in sponsoring a specific item.

Such "restrictive gifts" require more management and could create liability if they are not spent as directed, plus there is a need to keep the solicitation letter short and unchanging over time. When the donated amount is small, like $12, permitting a restriction does not make sense for the association. What nonprofits need is a single large account of general funds, not 10 smaller accounts for different purposes that require careful accounting back-up to associate spending with the purposes of the accounts. Therefore, this is a campaign for unrestricted gifts that can benefit any APS-APRL service. There's extensive info about those services on the website.

Of course, anyone thinking of donating a large amount could certainly contact Scott to explore a restricted gift.

Chris

I mailed off a check few days ago. I give to the APS generally twice a year; around now with Mighty Buck and again at the end of the year. Seeing the lists of stuff that's been purchased by Mighty Buck contributions, I think it is a worthwhile donation.

And after being involved with multiple non-profit boards for decades, I concur with Chris' comments.

I agree. I donate to the MBC and I think the main driver of that to me is that the program is able to show tangible results for the money donated. Sure it might not seem like a lot, but the fact that you can actually see what has been purchased adds value to the donation.

The idea is not just what they have purchased but what do they want to get. Some will send money without question (the easy ones) but others may be motivated by a specific cause (the more reluctant ones).

For example, when you go by some charity group in front a Walmart sometimes they just have a generic cause but others have specific goals (band trip, uniforms). I wonder if people that donate money follow up to insure it was spent for what they said they did with it. There is no need to over complicate this with self-defeating reasoning.

Now if I donate $1000 I will care more about what it goes to as I had in the past when I donated especially since I used my company's matching grant program.

They have published a "wish" list of things they wanted in the past. It was mostly office operations stuff, as I recall.

Try here: http://stamps.org/Mighty-Buck-Purchases

Also see: http://stamps.org/Mighty-Buck-Club

How will the Club support the hobby?

The Mighty Buck Club supports the hobby by building a designated MBC fund, one buck at a time, for providing:

$$ much needed technology, reference literature, and supplies to improve the APS and APRL member services;

$$ subsidy funds for additional education programming when possible;

$$ additional journals for the APRL and member use;

$$ additional resources and equipment for use at APS shows;

$$ supplies to enhance APC visitors' experiences

We don't have a wish list for the Mighty Buck Club, but we share with donors and members what we purchase with it. It is a small dollar donation program that generates funds to buy equipment - usually technology - to serve the membership. We bought all of the equipment necessary to put in a unified wifi to cover the APC last year with MBC funds. Thanks to everyone who supports the program!

If you would like to know other ways to give to the APS or have a specific program you would like to support, you are welcome to contact me directly.
