Stanley Gibbons says... "...the colour is suffused on the surface of the stamp and shows through clearly on the back.The correct aniline reaction is a bright golden emission on both sides of the stamp". So, if you have a UV lamp then see if it gives that golden glow as well as the ink being all the way thru to the back of the stamp. Incidentally, it is quite possible to create an "aniline" stamp so I'd never buy one without some sort of guarantee... and even then I'd be unsure. Simply put a stamp into a pvc enclosure and the pvc will soften the inks and bleed thru to the back.
