This year will be my first visit to a NAPEX show. I am wondering if there are usually any dealers with stocks of FDCs. May seem a strange question, but my experience has been that FDCs are often not found at many shows these days. I have looked at the list of dealers on their site, there are some postal history dealers, I do not see any FDC dealers.

One of my other areas is France and some colonies, that society is having their convention there so I expect to be able to find plenty of that material at the bourse. Is anyone else on here going?

I use to go to NAPEX when I lived in Maryland. I'm sure there will be some dealers who have them of some sort - box lots, $1/cover boxes and some better ones along with other covers. I doubt there will be a specialist in FDCs there, but it seems every dealer has them somewhere in their stock, but it depends on if they bring them or not. NAPEX is more expensive show thus you might not see much cheaper material, but the potential for higher end FDCs is better. Smaller local shows tend to have the cheaper items. However, there's a lot of dealers so the odds are in your favor.

The cost for a dealer to rent space at a larger show plus the cost for them to travel to the show and transport their stock and then stay overnight for however many days the show runs plus arriving the day before to set up, etc. tends to run into a substantial amount of money. While there are a few higher priced FDCs, 98 percent of FDCs are very low value and it is not cost effective to transport large numbers of them to a show and pay for table space for them as opposed to covers that sell for more substantial amounts and where there is a profit to be made by the dealer to not only cover their costs but to also make a good profit to keep their business going. It is a matter of basic economics.

Kimo, there are a few regular dealers that carry a lot of stock of low value items - not just FDC.

This dealer was at the Reno show. A lot of low cost items. Picture from APS Facebook page.

I am sure there are some FDC dealers and someone who knows them would have to chime in. I was a NAPEX a long time ago and they had a Cachet Makers bourse in addition to regular FDC dealers. If there is something you want, you can connect with dealers to help locate it.

Coverman will be there , as will Doug Weitz. They are the only two that I know are likely to have FDC's. You might want to gewt in touch with them and let them know what your interests are; they might be able to bring things for you to look at.
