Is it just me. I have been buying Artcraft FDCs on ebay for the past couple years. I always was able to pick up most of what I need for maybe a buck and a half each or so. This evening I went searching for the first time since the Holidays. Many of what look like they ought to be common ones are listed at $10 start or more. Even for addressed.

Has there been a run on these since Washington Press discontinued new issues? Are FDC dealers trying to create one? It just seems a bit strange to see common FDCs fro the 50's listed at $10 or more for starters. Is it my imagination?

Are these well-established dealers listing them for $10 or just someone who knows nothing about FDCs who got ahold of them some how? I see overpriced FDCs at antique stores all the time - $5 to $20 each for what I know I can get for $1-2 or less. Always remember that just because they are selling stamps or covers on ebay doesn't mean they know what they are doing and/or have the resources to make a reasonable offer.

I perhaps ought to have posted a few links, give me time, maybe tomorrow. I doubt these are established dealers, I think the ones I saw with high prices might have been private collectors trying to cash in on something they think is hot now. I've been picking these up over the past couple years and the ones I saw did not have names I recognized.

When you do your ebay search, click the button to show you the auctions where things have actually sold. Those are the actual prices. There are a great many sellers who try to get unknowledgeable buyers to bid on so called "auctions" with unrealistic starting bids. I'm sure they catch an unwary buyer or two but for the most part their auctions never actually sell and they just keep recycling their auctions. Once you see what the real prices people actually pay are you will see that even $1 to $2 per cover is sometimes quite a bit higher than what people actually pay, especially if they are buying covers in larger sized lots.
