The black counting number appears once in the strip of six stamps that I have.

Looks like it might? be a bank "stamp" or something like an S&H green "stamp". In other words, not something that is related to postage at all.

I think it's some kind of trading test stamp. The kind used in old grocery stores. Note the weird star-shaped perforations. Probably used by the stamp dispersing mechanism to push the stamps out.

I was hoping someone would recognize the stair-step design (or whatever those diagonal lines are).
