Interesting, ttreen: I find keeping Unsharp Mask checked gives me sharper images.
stampcrow, here is your second scanned image of the Plate 1L claret with the same stamp scanned on my Epson Perfection V370 Photo scanner shown at right. I called this a sulfuretted probable deep claret when I scanned it. In my opinion, my scan was close to the true stamp color. But to possibly complicate things, your images make it look like the stamp was treated with peroxide. Neither your camera nor your scanner image seem to indicate the stamp is sulfuretted.
If you didn't treat it, let me know if your stamp looks close to my image. It's also possible that your scanner auto-adjusted something against the black background to make the stamp paper look whiter.
