I have this encased stamp and I haven't been able to find much information on it. I've seen a few for sale at some auction houses but they are basically 'here it is, buy it if you want' with no actual info about them.

For example, there's this one https://(Offsite URL shortening not allowed) /35JFNC.

Does anyone know the history about them?

When they're from? Why they exist?

These kind of items where issued mostly by companies during the inflation period of 1922/1923. due to the inflation there quickly was a shortage of change/banknotes. As an attempt to keep people happy stamps where handed out to replace the banknotes. With a promise that if banknotes where abaliable again peole could swap ther stamp for a banknote/change. This of course happend very little as inflation and most certainly the hyperinflation at that time made sure there were never enough or the right value of banknotes. Most issued banknotes were constantly of a higher value due to inflation and were not suited to swap for low value stamps anymore. They are nice objects. If you google under Briefmarkengeld you will find a lot more examples and variations. Kind regards, Johan.

Johan, that was truly awesome! I had no idea that happened elsewhere. In the US, that had happened already, but way back in 1862.

Behind the stamp there seems to be a kind of an explanation what the stamp is for or how it is given.
