Without expending too much effort, does anyone know more about this canx?

I only want it for the date, but it is interesting for whatever reason.

Thanks in advance!

Cheshire Railroad. Tolman C-8D.

EDIT: I take that back. There's no "Co." at the end, otherwise it would be a spot on match. Also, it's unlikely they would have used R3cs.

Perhaps a proprietary medicine company?

Thank you!

Any suggestions for reference books or checklists that may list it?

The two Tolman books on railroad and insurance cancels are indispensible for cancel collectors. You can purchase them from Eric Jackson.

There are various and sundry TAR articles on other cancel types, but there is no formal "cancel catalog" for cancels and even the above mentioned references do not provide any valuation or scarcity indications; they are just lists and images for cancel attribution.

Tolman Insurance Cancel database online listing (includes some Tolman cancels that he didn't get in his book but were in his personal notes) http://www.stampsmarter.com/feature...Cancels.html

Note; I looked and did not see this cancel shown above. There are some CENTRAL PARK FIRE INSURANCE COMPANY (CPF)... perhaps a variant?

Hi Don,

Thank you - I will take a spin through after working a few honey-do items :-(

Again, I only wanted it for the date, but it stood out and I simply hoped somebody would recognize it and have a little bit of info about the company.

To aid in the search it would be great if we agreed on what the initials are! The first letter is certainly a C. but beyond that? Dan thought C.R.R., but I am unsure about the final letter. K, perhaps?

In any case I think that the search should concentrate on users of proprietary stamps. My quick run through the private dies did not turn up any plausible candidates.
