Thanks Jim,

I looked for it, but I guess I couldn't find the right category.

Actually, for me it's mostly enthusiastic curiosity, access to a high speed Internet connection, the efforts of digitizing old books by Google, and endless hours of boredom at work when I should be doing something else.

This may be an explanation behind the "Patent" date of the stamp/label. According to the online version of Scientific American dated July 23, 1864 it seems that Henry Damon's DESIGN received a trademark on July 7, 1864:

Yes, it seems that Henry considered trademarks, guarantees, warrants, and patents (and maybe even copyrights?) to all be synonymous.

Good Morning,

Hope I'm not intruding. Just saw this post from a Google image search result. I have had this stamp in questionable status for quite some time. Thank you for posting the image and information. No writing on the back of my stamp. Any idea as to it's value? What book is this from?

Thanks again.

Hi

I placed a value of $25 for the stamp without text on the back (first image).

The name of the book is shown in the second image above at the bottom.
