Jonathan, what makes you think it is Canadian? And why do you post this under inherited?

@Peter This stamp was with the other Canadian stamps, but I guess it could be any British colony or commonwealth… I inherited this stamp, so I figured I'd posted it here, but please advise.

Hi Jonathan,
The " inherited" section is really for those who have inherited a collection and don't where to turn next.
As you mentioned in one of your post, you also inherited dad's "collecting gene"
With your 80 posts in under a month, you're no longer the newbie. Look thru the different forums and you'll find where your subject will receive the most views.

The manuscript cancel may have been added later, the stamped straight line -PEAR LT
SECRETAE cancel is probably more significant.

It's GB - the main clue is the lack of an identifying country name. Used as a revenue stamp, hence the signature and company stamp, rather than a postmark.

Also note the Great Britain stamps at that time could be used for both postage and revenue. This is why it has both printed on it. Manuscript (hand written) cancels are a good indicator that the stamp has been used for revenue (fiscal) use. Most countries like the US used separate stamps for postage and revenue use.
