APS Donates 500,000 Stamps To Holocaust Art Project

I wanted to share a great story about using stamps in the classroom. We had the opportunity to support an 8-year program to collect 11 million stamps at the Foxborough Regional Charter School in Foxborough, Massachusetts to honor the 11 million victims of the Holocaust.

The school has received donations from 43 of the 50 states, so if you are or know a collector from one of the following states, please ask them to consider sharing some stamps: Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Mississippi, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Kudos to the APS, this is a worthwhile project. This collector from Iowa has donated to them before and I'll have another shipment to send them by the time school starts back up in the fall. I gave them a few pounds of miscellaneous faulty and common stamps I wanted to get rid of, I figured it was probably 30,000 or so stamps. And then I gave thought to the project itself and came to the grim realization that the 30k didn't even represent what the Nazis did in just two days at Babi Yar alone. The APS donation could represent the murders at Auschwitz in just one summer with the Jews of Hungary. Hopefully donors take some time to reflect on this, if only for a moment. It's easy for things like this to be repeated if ordinary people don't remember them.

Very well said! The art projects the students are doing convey some very powerful messages. What was impressive was the detail in selecting the stamps to be used for the projects - they were perfectly tied in. It really reinforces just how much stamps have done to preserve history. Thanks for supporting the project.

After I saw this post I sent a few duplicates to this project. The postcard I received in reply stated that my contribution made West Virginia the 46th state to participate. I don't know which four states they are still missing.
