I am still in the middle of cataloging my collection (it has taken me over 20 years so far) on and off..
I found a few stamps that are very difficult to trace but thanks to the community here I was able to find out about them...

Then I came across this stamp..

and was wondering how do you track down information on a stamp like this?

first I tried a google image search (That works well if the postmark isn't covering up to much of the information)

Second I usuallly zoom into an area that isn't postmarked and see if I can decipher and letters in 'english' cyrillic or greek

Thirdly I go to the community..

Just interested in people's opinions..
It might help me hone my Philately Skills..

Thanks

Polish in origin? I'm thinking this because of the use of the crossed "L" in his first name (sorry but it doesn't come out properly in plain text). Copernicus was Polish, after all.

There are perfs, so my guess would be either a cinderella that someone has managed to slip through the postal system, or a postal label, which would have been attached to a sheet of stamps, or a souvenir sheet, which has also been included on a letter.

Considering the poor quality of the printing, I'd lean toward cinderella.

It's a label that was attached to Poland Michel 2088, Scott 1818, Fischer 1940 from 1971.

Or else its an early San Francisco 49's QB collector's card image. May be his great grand father ... an UDFA?

I posted a thread about 10 years ago, forseeing the queries on Stamp "Tabs" or "Labels" in stamp forums.

There are now thousands of them, due to stamp printers, winkling out collectors money, by printing in the selvedge, and thus making "varieties" to collect.

A few Stamp Tabs

I don't know people's thoughts on them but I like them, it adds a bit more character to a stamp..
Apart from the Australia ones above, I think 1 for effort..
I am currently cataloging Czechoslovakia and came across this one..

So the present tally Alphabetically from Aden to Czechoslovakia (in the middle of cataloging) 2400 Stamps..
