Is this what you had in mind? It can be found reading either up or down. These are both PSS Type L-5 E; the PSS catalogue values them at .05 each.
One of the quirks of the two fields, stamp collecting and precancel collecting, is the fact that Scott stamp values are not considered in the value of a precancel to a precancel collector. I've always had a problem with that. While you may find most precancels easily on the one cent stamp - where a value of .05 is actually reasonable, what happens when you find that same precancel on say Scott 573? That stamp has a value of $20.00 without the precancel, but there are precancel collectors who will try to argue that the value is only .05....
Personally, I've always thought it would be a better idea to add the precancel value to the Scott catalogue value to arrive at a proper value for the precancel.


Don't discount the less expensive version of the buffalo 30c stamp, Scott 700. Here's an example of that stamp, with a bureau precancel on it for Buffalo N.Y.
