Did these US covers actually sell for the price indicated? Or is this just a seller gimmick to get buyers to look at their other items for sale?

Shill bidding? Total nonsense that anyone would possibly jump on those "deals." John |

Good question, is there a loophole around the fees for them after the fact, like if they say a buyer cancelled or didnt pay? |

If the item is never paid for you will, of course, get any sales commission refunded to your account, but not a listing fee. However, from time to time E-Bay offers sellers a deal on commissions. I received an e-mail from E-Bay today which offers "$5 final value fee per item for the first 5 sales of $50 or more. List by June 10". I got this because I haven't listed anything in the last 6 months and they would like my business. They offer other deals from time to time. |

Somebody is transferring large amounts of money, trying to make it look like a legitimate transaction rather than having a record via check, cashier's check, wire transfer, etc. There's still a record from Paypal (if that's how payment was made), and Paypal is probably more expensive than the other methods besides ebay fees. Transactions of $10,000 or more must be reported by banks who put a hold on the funds besides. Two checks of $5k apiece sent on the same day (or nearly so) to the same person may or may not slide by, but they are still subject to this federal law. With the suspicious amounts paid, and paid repeatedly, someone is very obviously trying to get around this. But it is also quite obvious what they're doing, at least to those of us who know modern FDCs. One would think the FBI (or whoever) has computer programs in place to detect such shady-looking transactions, no matter the amounts used. |

Well, both FDCs are reported as completed sales, and each would cost $750 just in the ebay final sales fee. Gee, cheapskate me would go to the mall, take a picture of a parked moped, list it under "Motor vehicles - Powersports under 50cc" and get charged a $10 final sales fee. The seller is a stamp dealer with thousands of ebay sales, who has sold and sells other US FDCs at expected prices. |

I've looked through his feedback and his 'about Me' write up. Nothing about him suggests someone who'd be involved in anything criminal. Could someone have hijacked his account for this purpose? |

Maybe someone can ask him about what was so rare about the FDCs that they sold for so much. |

jogil I considered that but I am not the right person to send that message. I would perhaps come across other than intended. Still it'd be fascinating to see what if anything, he'd say. |
