Hi, I would like to start collecting both of these. Can anyone tell me when Canada Post began issuing souvenir sheets, and when cachet'd First Day Covers began being issued either by Canada Post or any other companies?

Thanks!

The first Canadian souvenir sheet would be the CAPEX '78 issue. Here is a thread discussing this souvenir sheet:

I think the Xmas stamp # 85 with the fancy slogan cancel will look very close to a traditional fdc if you find one of the release day

I think what Skorpiius may be asking is: when did Canada Post issue its first OFDC? Does anyone know that?

Good point, sak. I had deliberately avoided answering that part because the OP did mention "or any other companies". But for Canada Post's first official FDC with cachet, I believe it would be Scott Canada #535(14Apr1971) -- the Maple (in Spring) issue.

Yes, I looked in the FDC Specialist and it also lists 1927 as the year for the first cacheted Canadian FDC, supporting area66's post.

I sell my FDC around 2000 , seems a long time, I remember the Seaway block of 4 for sure, but it may be not from Canada Post at all, this is the problem

Block of 4 on FDC was popular , my Grand-father always told me do not collect stamps if it's not a block.....

I found one on ebay, was not Canada Post, some have both US and CDN Stamps

So Unitrade probably list FDC from companies

I did check the FDC Specialist for the first official cacheted FDC from Canada Post, and they confirm it was the Maple in Spring stamp -- Scott Canada #535(14Apr1971).
