Hi Don

Glad to help, I will ring him and give him your thanks, he'll appreciate it. I collect Australian specimens, and to me they complete the set they were printed for, and that font also had me scratching my head as that style was never used when the stamp was issued between 1862-1871.

I knew it may be a reprint as the watermark was different but I needed confirmation, the phone call confirmed it, and $150 is not too bad for a stamp.

Rob,

It may be worthwhile chasing down James Bendon's book on the distribution of stamps to the UPU. It has comprehensive listings of the overprints used on stamps sent to the UPU. There is a 1989 edition and a much expanded and improved 2015 edition, both worthwhile.

Shopping around and researching is always called for in buying philatelic and other specialized kind of books. Booksellers without the specialized knowledge will make a big deal about first editions and out-of-print and often add premiums, even if there was only one edition. We'd likely prefer an updated latest edition, if it exists.

Now there are people who collect philatelic books so pristine copies are deserving of top prices, assuming scarcity in that condition. Me, I'd be happy with a serviceable, obviously used copy. Like stamps. And some philatelic books are rare, but so are the buyers for them. Like stamps.

Provided the used book does not have pen lines, pen circles, hand writing, stains, creases (can lead to the page eventually tearing) or anything else that can damage the book, I'd go for the used one.
