I purchased 3 stamps: 49II and A49II advertised just as "color varieties" (without any details). Obviously first stamp is A49II and second and third are 49II. Second stamp seems to be expertized, but without any color description (a or b). Is it normal practice? What is the purpose of BPP without color description? And finally - it seems to me that second stamp is actually 49IIb. Any comments? Thanks.

igopp,
These were heavily forged, and I see a few things in the overprints that give me pause. Can you take exact measurements (to the tenth of a mm) of the horizontal and vertical dimensions of the posthorns and the spacing between rows?
Also, the Dr. Dub sig should not be trusted. It was heavily forged. |

Dr Dub was a legitimate BPP member. His signature was later used by not so trustworhy people. Yours looks okay. Also the purple like color is right(but no guarantees). Why there is no color description I do not no. Maybe it was not about he color but about the stamp in general.
Also of interest: The upper and lower right posthorns on your left stamp have the crushed circle flaw. Always nice to have(not extremely valuable though) |

I have doubts about the first stamp, with the typical look of the fakes: heavy granular inking and distortion of various elements on too many posthorns including the hanging tassels/ornaments. Measurement should provide the answer.
I don't recall a Dr. Dub signature ever having a variety identified with it. |

hy-brasil - thanks, I will share all measurements later. However - if Dub's signature is not for color identification, then what is it for? Just to confirm that it is real posthorn #49II? |

I made some measurements on suspicious stamp. Different instances of Posthorn have slightly different dimensions - average values shown below. Actually other 2 stamps also have very similar Posthorn dimensions. So - what it should be? Unfortunately Michel is not providing any details. Is there any on-line or printed materials on posthorn overprints? |

The "BPP cancel" is only to say that the stamp has been certified as genuine, never it says which ID or color it is. But the position of the signature and the distance to the margin says something about the quality of the stamp (sometimes). Here there is a lot more information in German, but you can use Google translator... http://www.klassische-briefmarken.d...uefungen.htmDr. Emil Dub (1883-1976) was a BPP member as said already, here you can find a real signature (the one at the bottom), the one at the top is not correct probably. You can compare with your one. http://www.philaseiten.de/cgi-bin/fb.pl?ID=3309 |

igopp,
I sent you an email with more info on the forgeries. Those measurements aren't a good sign. |
