Does anybody know where to find an online list or index of former and present Post Offices in Canada?
Unitrade has an index of Post Offices that used ring and squared circle postmarks - which is excellent for the classic stuff. However I am looking for a more complete index including both old and recent post offices.
Can anyone please help? Thanks in advance

I do not believe there is an online list of post offices but if you know the name of an office it can be researched through the Library & Archives Canada website.
There is a listing of ONTARIO produced by Robert Smith but I suspect it is out of print now but they do show up occasionally.
There are also several exhibits and studies that are "county" specific that will provide limited lists.
The Postal History Society of Canada has a really comprehensive list of post office markings on the website and available to members only. An e-membership is inexpensive and is most worthwhile (A full membership is probably better).
By the way, a list of all Canadian Post Offices would be a really big list. As an example, there are more than 3600 post offices in Ontario alone (I am crazy enough that I am attempting to have a strike from every P.O. open during the Small Queen period and, after 20 years looking have about 750 of them)

Thank you all for taking your time to respond gportch - thanks, I have already been in contact with PHSC and they probably have the most complete lists. However as I understand their lists are on a server, and not possible for me to copy into my own custom made Postmark register in Excel. It seems difficult to get lists for all Canadian P.O's...If anyone have lists of P.O.'s for single provinces only, that would also be much appreciated. Unless something else comes up, I guess I can simply use lists of villages, town and hamlets etc from each province into my register (even tough many of them probably never have had their own post offices). I reckon the list will reach approx 20.000 entries or more...and naturally its only for reference, not something I aim to 'complete' in any way or another. |

A little craziness is required to achieve big things - keep it going, GJP Reminds me I am doing something similar for the Ceres/Napoleon era of French stamps, by collecting different PC and GC postmarks. That's also a crazy undertaking - I have only about 600 different of them - and about 9400 to go... |

Jon, I am close to completion on all the post offices of Prince Edward Island and will send you the Excel sheet when done.
For Canada's smallest province, there is close to 600! |

Brian - that is marvelous, thank you so much for the offer - exactly what I need Do you mind to send to Don as well for the greater audience? So then, 1 province done (almost) - 9 more provinces and 2(3) territories to go |

BeeSee my search methodology must be wrong. Could you give me the words you entered in the fields for New Brunswick. I only put Post Offices and New Brunswick. Thanks a million ! I have done a million searches on medical sites and did have success. Rene
Returned to the search engine and just putting New Brunswick in the search field, got it ! I did not have to put Post Offices......
