Please help confirm and I will send you one. Several of my copies show the same short upper horizontal line, and missing parts of the connecting vertical lines. Those of you with the Newfoundland NSSC should be able to confirm for me. Can you please answer (with a catalog number, and value, if any?) Thanks.

I don't collect Newfoundland, but the 2018 Unitrade Specialized Catalogue of Canadian Stamps shows two issues of this stamp. The Perkins Bacon printed Royal family issue is perforated 13.5 and the re-issued Waterlow printing is perforated 12.5. Otherwise they appear to be identical. The image in the catalogue also shows the narrow first "N" in "NEWFOUNDLAND".

The earlier stamp is SC245 and was officially issued on May 12, 1938.

The later re-issue is SC254 and printed between 1941 and 1944.

Both are valued as VF 25 cents and F 20 cents (dealer's minimum sales prices for a single stamp purchase).

Other than imperforates and a watermark, the catalogue has no varieties listed for either of these two stamps.

I checked Ralph E. Trimble's web site "RE-ENTRIES.COM" and he does not list any re-entries (the extra green marks on your stamps) for these two stamps. Mr. Trimble is the recognized expert on Canadian re-entries.

Perhaps other collectors have more information for you.

Blackjag, thanks for the info. That is what I found by searching through Unitrade, but I think that owners of the latest NSSC may have more information.

As far as differences between the two issues, you are correct that the perforations are different. I have also seen that the "L" in Newfoundland differs. The bottom of the L curves up sharply in the earlier issue (Perkins Bacon) while the Waterlow issue is what we have here. Another defining feature is the bottom horizontal line, and I believe the "C" and "S" of Cents differ slightly. If I have time this weekend, I'll post some pictures.

Here is a scan of the upper left of a "normal" stamp, showing a complete line to the corner. This example also shows a possibility of a re-entry down the left side. (I sent it into Ralph and am awaiting his reply.)
