I guess use of Shopify falls down to question whether or not Australian officials treat Shopify as 'service' similar to ebay.

Probably; Shopify is Canadian.

Forget Delcampe tried it and webstore before to no sales. Thanks for everyones comments. If their bringing in the next tax in 2018 we are paying to much. I am not registered for GST. I do this as a hobby mini business and it will with all the costs start running at a loss with these taxes. You have to include cost ebay and of postage (I set it at free on ebay), envelopes, cardboard specially cut as stifners, purchasing collections etc. Very little profit in it, the main reason I sell postal history and stamps is because I enjoy it. Taken on board about shopify will have to pay the tax but you won't have to pay on fvf, shop fee etc. Understand I will need to promote my own website. Haven't heard of the Oz based websites mentioned but will look them up. I think I will still sell on ebay but will have to sell less. A real shame. Bet the big Oz retail stores are happy.

Sadly this issue is as clear as mud to me.

Have an ABN but for how long. Sound like the accounts win trying to explain everything.

Everyone involved is in the same boat and as other price hikes in the past they will be across the board and the cost of goods will go up and the consumer will pay dearly not the seller. The government will be using the sellers to collect the paid tax from the buyer and ebay etc will collect all the tax into one bundle to simplify how the government will collect this new tax.

To think that this is a tax that comes out of all sellers effected pockets is a bit niave. The buyers pocket is where this tax is coming from.Prices will go up accordingly in mass.

Hi KGV yes prices will go up, sellers need to cover the cost of the tax. Maybe in the end we have to add the final invoice a 10% tax there to buyers? These continued price hikes are going to kill online business in this country for small sellers. Is there any money in selling dvds on ebay these days and other similar common items? Once the cost of online goods is up too high here people from overseas simply won't buy from here unless its something they can't get elsewhere in the world. Lets see how this goes down, I can imagine trying to claim said 10% back from the tax office if your registered for GST is going to be nightmare on elmstreet. Honestly the cost keep going up up and up and when you include prices from the post office its crazy.

In 2015 I had the best items to sell and got to a point where I had a number of nurseries buying my air plants and everything looked great and applied and received an ABN.

Within 2 months after receiving my ABN my stock supplier could no longer import the needed plants that they were suppling me at wholesale prices and plant number and variety of plants just disappeared.

Can you imagine how that affected me.

No way was I letting this situation crush me. 18 months later I am in a very strong position with this plant type alone. But I need to have 2 more years before I can get up and going again.

Have not used my ABN because of the huge lose of plant stock I had to sell. And a fear that I would get slugged with having to pay back all the GST free goods purchased.

Lawrence I see you offer stamps for sell using Krill and direct deposit instead of PayPal. This is not good at all , Krill is well know to not refund if buyers don't receive their stuff. Direct deposit you can kiss goodbye your money too

I don't see why it's to the buyers to take risks

I told everyone this would happen ebay UK raised the scheduled listing fee from 10c to 11c then the auction listings from 40p to 60p never told sellers and then ebay OZ put 10% netflix tax on top of all Oz seller FVF even if you seller on overseas site if you live in OZ you get the dam netflix tax. The tax is supposed to be paid by ebay to the Goft not by the sellers. Sadly next year another 10% tax on goods. This also affects Canada and India. Unfortunately ebay are becoming a revenue raising company and the cost at current if I run auctions and get 1 bid puts me in the negative and not worth the effort. Needless to say what they will be like in 5 years time no one will make profits? I am using the 1500 free BIN on ebay UK but sold half a dozen items only the first days of this month my sales have fallen badly and ebay don't seem to care that they are hurting one seller at a time. Delcampe for stamps probably a good idea. Myshopify have your own .com and pray. At one point between ebay and paypal they seemed to be taking 40% of profit. Too much!
