Not an oddity, but I like the cancellation. Cue, Western Australia. Per Wiki, now with a population of only 178, but a bustling gold town of about 10,000 in the early 1900's. |

Opinion. be cautious here, could be selvedge bent over, or removed and attached. Selvedge of this emission had 1 perforation hole extended, beyond the stamp, which could match.

Here is one that I posted in the "Lets see your latest purchases" thread. I thought I would point out the very minor issues. The is Scott C1, ACSC 136, the booklet stamp with the dot in the middle of the bottom. It is mint, never hinged. I would like to hear comments from the Aussie experts about the apparent semi-circular scribe line that appears to go across the top of the stamp. Here are closeups of the left and the right top. Any ideas? Normal? |

This is Tasmania, but I wanted to keep most things in one place. Scott 97 is the 2d with sideways watermark V over crown. The first example is a nice, clear, normal version. It is a relatively light printing. The stamp in question is used, much darker, but seems to have a semicircle of color, starting at the upper right 2 and continuing down to the middle, then bottom right. I don't think it is a plate scratch or fracture. Perhaps a foreign entry? Your thoughts? |

This is a nice recent purchase. A first flight cover , Australia to Netherlands Indies, May 20, 1931, filled with a variety of stamps. Most are a little high, so slightly damaged on the top, stained on upper right, and some small tears here and there. The main attraction, the 1 shilling imprint pair, is in good shape. There are two versions of this imprint pair, one with the third watermark and one with the small multiple watermark. Due to the date, I am leaning towards the later version, making it Scott 98 or ACSC 34(4)za, the Ash Imprint pair. It was great to find this on a cover. A closeup of the Imprint Pair, showing the lack of marginal lines. Here are the other stamps in the upper right corner. |

Nice 1/- interpanneau imprint pair Steve, Unable to assist, I don't have reference material, I would suspect a CV around $30 certainly not a First flight Australia to Holland. You shall need a member with Nelson Eustice's catalogue. |

Quote: I would suspect a CV around $30 What is interesting is that ACSC lists a single standard stamp, Blue-green variety, as having a value of AUS$250 on cover. So, I am hoping that the Ash imprint pair would have a significantly higher value, even though this is clearly a philatelic item. Maybe not, but a keeper none-the-less. |

Quote: So, I am hoping that the Ash imprint pair would have a significantly higher value, Steve, apologies, I was focusing on the first flight covers that I bid on at auction, completely ignored the Ash imprint. Your'e right of course. Could be anything, maybe Fair Dinkum stamps shall chime in? Philatelic: I guess you have recognised RAPKIN the Stamp Album manufacturer / dealer. Still a cracking cover. Very interested to hear the premium, if you get an appraisal, please post. |

I would chase it up where ever you can, Fair dinkum stamps regularly posts here. The difficulty for me here is, you have a mixed item, a first flight cover, with an Ash imprint pair, so way beyond my knowledge. Perhaps try some of the more specialists Aussie dealers. I have a bid presently on an Air Mail Catalogue, but will not know if I have won, till mid April. That's what you need, to see if it is listed in AAMC (Australian Air Mail Catalogue) and then include the imprint pair as a premium. Typical Auction AAMC listings. (Leskie Auctions) |

Hi Partime I thought I commented, seems I forgot. That First Airmail envelope is quite a nice acquisition. This link may be of interest to you, it's about First Flight Airmail. http://www.nzstamps.org.uk/air/external/klm.htmlMy doctor is a First Flight collector, I'll give him a link to this page. Rob |
