Vario with small label is a very simple way to arrange a collection, you don't need to purchase mounts, stamps can be re-arranged. But we know Vario are not that easy to turn when you want to look at your stamps pages by pages.
But here a very simple trick, you scan the pages and place them in folders by country

then you open them with your Windows Photo Viewer and you turn the pages like if it was in an album

You can zoom on any stamp if you want, this is why I used 600dpi

But let say you want more detail for some stamp , you can scan the page at 1200dpi , then crop each stamps one by one and save them in a separated folder, then you simply reduce the full page at 50% that will give you a good resolution for the full page and still capable to zoom

Now some info, I do have a very powerfull i7 computers with SSD drive, you can scan a page with Paint at 1200dpi, but once save and close it will not open it, it's over the capacity of paint. At 600 no problem.

Also pages at 1200 dpi take a little bit more time to open in Viewer, on my PC 600dpi are instant.

For the demo I did use Paint for scan and Microsoft Photo Viewer to display because they are free and come with the PC. I want to show something simple that everyone can use.

Area66,

I use your technique to track and manage my stockpages, solves so many problems at so many levels.

But then I take it to the next step and crop each photo use PMGS to level them and put them in album pages like this:

I was think about this and products like Evernote. If you have in evernote. Evernote will check images and you can search on text.

I use OneNote and have created a virtual continuous catalog. I have started add images too.

Angore -

Evernote's a great idea and brings up some other possibilities. Onenote is great too, because not only does it save on the fly to a database, it has great backup capabilities.

All the text on my sheets are typed, so that's obviously searchable. At 1200 dpi, I'm guessing I could turn on OCR at it would pick up a lot of horizontal text on the stamps. Also, I could tag the individual photos. There's lots of good, easy to use technology that can be brought to stamp collecting without buying expensive software.
