Hello experts,

I'm looking for a way to determine the color paper for RB1 & RB2 (gray or green)...is there a cheap example of each that I either might have or can get (cheaply) to compare my rev's to? Even a regular postage stamp?
I don't want to post scans since it's so hard to determine on computer, but I sure would like to know if I have the A or B.

Thanks in advance!

Dave

The other difference is that the vignette on the violet and intermediate papers is black, but the vignette on the green papers is sepia. I'm not sure if that is due to a chemical reaction over time with the green paper or a deliberate printing difference. I have never come across any information in the classic literature about it.

The intermediate paper shown above is a complete . Visually, it appears to be closer to green than violet, but is strangely classified and valued as violet paper. This can be a major trip-up for the unwary, since the green papers usually are much more expensive, especially on high denominations, and many dealers don't get it right.

You need to have a true green paper in hand to compare against, because if only being compared to a violet paper, your eyes will be tricked into thinking intermediate paper is green.

Unless the paper literlly shines bright green, it isn't.

It's classified as violet because it is an offshoot of violet. Under UV it appears violet and not green. That is one reason why learning the difference in the vignettes is so helpful.
This might help, since all three papers are shown and the differences in the vignettes can be seen.
